James grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and as a young man he studied Eastern philosophies. This might've seemed kind of strange for somebody living in Alabama in the 50s.

He received a master's degree in counseling and spent more than 15 years as a therapist. In 1989 he ended his career as a therapist and started to write full time. His first book was the Celestin prophecy and was self published in 1992.

The novel spent over three years on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold over 20 million copies.

James and his wife are the founders of Global Prayer Project.

I listen to the book on audio and really enjoyed it but I loved the movie. The movie shows what I like to refer to as energy vampires. A energy vampire is someone that sucks the energy out of another person and leaves them drained.

You really get an idea what's involved when studying outside your natural environments or religion. James takes you on a journey to find a treasure of unbelievable riches. I came away from watching the movie with a spiritual treasure about life's journey's and the people you meet along the way.
