John was born in 1940.
He graduated from the University of San Francisco with a degree in
psychology in the early 1960s. After that he became a captain in the
United States Army where he began to work for the United States
intelligence agency.
John went back to school to study linguistics and received a Ph.D. from
the University of California and San Diego.
In the early 1970s he became an assistant Professor of Linguistics at
the University of California Santa Cruz.
In 1972 John was approached in Richard
Bandler a psychology student to see if he would help him to model
Gestalt Therapy. It wasn't long after they developed Neuro Linguistic
Programming otherwise known as NLP.
During the 1980s Richard Bandler and John Grinder split up and went
their separate ways, taking NLP to a new level and in many different
directions.
